What is a love lock?

Love locks are a symbol of love and commitment. A love lock or love padlock is a padlock that sweethearts lock to a bridge, fence, gate, monument, or similar public fixture to symbolize their love. The most famous love lock bridge is Pont des Arts in Paris. In 2017, parts of the Pont des Arts bridge collapsed under the weight of the locks. The bridge simply couldn’t handle the heavy weight of all the locks. Eventually, the French authorities decided to replace parts of the bridge, to keep it strong.
